Review Time
Cheryl has impressed me for years -- specifically, her warmth and professionalism at the front desk. In July 2025, I came to admire her even more. A bag of my belongings was stolen from the men's locker room (I was showering from the bag, just ten feet away). When I reported the theft, Cheryl could not have been more sympathetic. She dropped what she was doing and focused on my confusion and sadness. Cheryl is a credit to the Oasis.
I was few months now at Better in Southgate which I was satisfied with and chose it mainly because of the Sauna but as I live next to the New Barnet one I decided to change and try this one instead. I am not pleased I must say. The treadmill is not as new as the Southgate ones and doesn't have all the routines and courses I used to do which were amazing. I can't seem to be able to book myself for classes even one week in advance, nearly everything gets booked up the moment the classes are live to book. I am a busy mum and I can only attend this gym twice a week and if I can't ever attend a class then it is completely pointless going here.they have way less classes than the Southgate one and not many spaces to book are left. I find this unfair as I pay more money per month now and don't have access to the same stuff I used to have. You have to increase your classes or workout something as I am on 4 waiting lists atm and still can't get anything even when I get the email of a free space. Everything's gone within seconds. Very disappointed
I'm conflicted by my review, SOME of the staff are absolutely awful , brusk but cliquey with regulars , the biggest bugbear and a dangerous one is the swimmers in inappropriate lanes ,a prime example was today , I swim in the medium speed lane and one swimmer was so slow that people in the slow lane next to ours were going faster than he was , I've complained about this on numerous occasions and I'm told (clearly BS) that staff will be spoken to ,to be more pro active in sorting it out and today two staff were standing by the pool and saw that I and a few others were trying g to get past this slow swimmer ... and guess what ? Did sweet FA , it may take an accident or a law suit for the staff to sort this issue out
Communication is terrible. Tennis lesson cancelled due to Belsonic event at Ozone. Not communicated. No direct telephone line to centre. It took me a long time to find a phone number and then try numerous options before being able to speak to anyone.Swimming- impossible trying to change time of Swimming lessons.. customers should be able to do this themselves online.Olympia leisure centre- the Swimming changing facilities - people are "reserving" changing rooms and leaving belongings in changing rooms. This is escalating..I have counted the number of free changing rooms and one week there were 9. All the family changing rooms are hogged for lengthy periods. I attend with four children and there is rarely a free family changing room. I have on occasion used changing rooms with belongs left in them and I am in and out before these self people return.. the leisure centre needs to start removing items left because it is making the facilities unable.. totally unnecessary and selfish behaviour
Better recently took over management of most gyms formerly ran by GoGateshead. They actively promote using their app which you can use to book classes and scan a qr code for access. While you can still get a physical card, you have to go to the front desk to be let into the gym. Previously with GoGateshead, you just got a member card which you swiped to let yourself in. I don't understand why the old card entry system was removed in place of an app, but I suspect Better use it to collect data on users- even if not it seems unnecessary to remove the old system of card swiping which should have been kept in my opinion.Better also seemed preoccupied with plastering information boards all over the gyms about how they're such an amazing company, but gave the staff minimal training on how to use their systems, resulting in a fairly bumpy transition between management. The gyms themselves seem to be running just the same so far with some work being undertaken to improve the facilities going forward but I'm not a fan of these app-related upgrades which just seem like fancy tech for tech's sake rather than meaningful improvements to the gyms' infrastructure. To be clear, I have zero issue with the gyms themselves or the staff who work there (it seems like they were given very little support), it's Better and their practices as a company who give me a bad impression.
