Mounts Bay Lodge

Mounts Bay LodgeI moved in to Mounts Bay Lodge in March 2025. My flat has stupendous views over the Wharf Street tidal dock on. one side, and New Town Lane on the other. It is large and beautiful and I am extremely happy here, learning to get to know the other residents, and to fully appreciate the wonderful job done by Kath Bailey (and her husband Mark) in looking after us all, going far beyond the call of duty in their helpfulness and constant good humour. There are lots of communal events - so far I have participated in the weekly coffee mornings, sing-songs, and gentle exercise groups - and occasional birthday parties, fish'nchip Fridays, memorial events, fund-raising events (notably bingo!).On a practical level I make use of the lovely cleaning help Emma Waldron; and have also (with less pleasure!) tested the Care facilities, having had to summon help when I took a fall in my room and needed a visit to A + E. There is a superb recycling room, and a library that I have volunteered to help organise. After 3 months I feel totally at home here, and would never want to move. Penzance too is a lovely little town with plenty to explore: so far I have joined the Morrab Library, drunk good coffee at the Lido, seen films in the Newlyn Filmhousse, and joined Penlee Gallery Friends and the Arts Society West Cornwall and attended events there. What more could an 87 year old womaan hope for?!Well, I do have at least 3 aspirations: I hope to visit St Michael's Mount; I would like to take a trip to the Scillies and back one calm day on the Scillonian; and (a big ask!) I would like to take one of the adventure trips round the coast looking for bird and marine life. It's good to look forward to things!Celia Larner
